#rebellionday was an absolute success at the #polarplunge2019, thanks to all of those who came out and the brave souls who went into the lake! Help us continue the safe & fun tradition by joining XRChicago in pushing the @extinctionrebellion @extinctionrebellionus movement forward! We won’t stop demanding climate truth. The time to act is now, or our kids won’t have a snowball’s chance in Hell!

In Washington D.C., about 30 people marched on the Smithsonian’s National Museum of Natural History — still closed in the government shutdown’s final days — where they held a funeral to mourn the loss of Mother Nature and the “end of natural history on Earth.”

XR Seattle mock funeral for Earth
XR Seattle held a mock funeral for Earth, while pointing out that we can still avoid Earth's demise if we organize. There was a Tree of Life onto which people could pin their hopes and plans for the struggle we're in. We discussed with people how we can and will turn things around on this precious planet.
XR SF Bay Area
Large energetic organizing meeting at #intertribalfriendshiphouse; group photo in front of their beautiful mural. Planning for a really great event and ritual happening mid-February. Good people met, planned actions and painted banners. When hope dies, action begins. This is not a memorial to something in the past that we accept and move on from, this is grief for our present and future that is motivating us to act. We are not here to look on our dying planet fondly with acceptance. We are gathering to build the relationships and resilience we need to rebel, together, in April. #ExtinctionRebellion #SFBayArea

XR Denver
The Denver meetup brought in 21 lovely people, from as far away as Boulder (30 miles) and Niwot (37 miles). People are psyched and eager to contribute. Awesome energy and solidarity. This might also have lit the spark for an Extinction Rebellion Boulder local chapter.
XR Kentucky
Extinction Rebellion Kentucky was at comic con in Frankfort, KY. Here they read the Star Wars Declaration of Rebellion that marked the formal declaration of open resistance against the Galactic Empire :)

XR Tampa Bay
In Tampa Bay around 35 people marched through downtown St. Petersburg. They posted artwork and messages of rebellion on the walls of banks that continue to fund extreme fossil fuel projects, such as Wells Fargo, which between 2015 and 2017 put nearly $5 billion into such projects, and Bank of America, which invested over $13 billion in the same period. They then gathered at the popular Saturday Morning Market, with various speakers calling on all levels of government to step up their climate change commitments in line with the science, and on their fellow residents to join the movement.
